ORGANIST VACANCY – ST MARTIN’S CHURCH, BRIGHOUSE, WEST YORKSHIRE

St Martin’s Church, Brighouse, West Yorkshire is seeking to appoint a Director of Music who has a vocation to lead Christian worship.
St Martin’s has a committed choir and worship group of both children and adults. The applicant should be a skilled organist and pianist interested in developing worship that brings together traditional and modern hymns, anthems and chants. S/he should be a strong leader able to encourage singers and musicians of varied skills and ages. S/he would be expected to lead worship on most Sunday mornings and the major festivals as well as monthly evensong, and rehearse the choir/worship group during the week. Remuneration negotiable based on RSCM rates and experience.

St Sepulchre Organ Scholarship‏

Organ Scholarship at St Sepulchre-without Newgate, Holborn

running from September 2016 to July 2017

The commitment: Principal, and only, accompanist for the professional choir for the Tuesday evening service of choral evensong at 6:30 pm, with a rehearsal before at 5:30 pm. Occasional special services on other days.

Suitability: The scholarship is ideal for someone who is looking to expand their accompaniment repertoire and gain experience in service playing. With the Musician’s chapel (where Henry Wood is buried) and the chapel for the Royal Fusiliers, the church hosts a number of prestigious services.   The church currently has a 2-manual Makin electronic organ while the special Harrison instrument is awaiting restoration.

The organ scholar is able to practise at pre-arranged times. All of the staff are incredibly friendly and supportive. There are plenty of opportunities to conduct if the scholar so wishes. The director of music is also willing to give lessons in either choral conducting or singing as part of the scholarship.

Desirable: Approximately grade 8-diploma standard on the organ. Previous accompaniment experience, ideally for the service of choral evensong, and a repertoire of voluntaries for after the service.

Remuneration: £2000 (plus extra for special services)

Goetze & Gwynn – Web page for Martin Goetze

 Also, a reminder about the celebration of the life and works of Martin Goetze

to be held on February 20th 2016 at 3.00pm at St Botolph Aldgate

Tim Roberts will play music by John Worgan, who was organist at St Botolph’s and a musician famous in his day. He will bring his new CD of the organ works of Worgan, which he has dedicated to Martin’s memory.  Also playing will be Chris Farr, who was organist at St John and St Philip the Hague in the Netherlands, Goetze & Gwynn’s first new organ for which Martin was also responsible.  David Butterworth, organist in Nottingham and a frequent and welcome visitor to the Goetze & Gwynn workshop, will also play.

The performances will take about an hour, and there will be tea and cake afterwards.

There will also be an opportunity to contribute to the training fund set up in Martin’s memory.

We look forward to seeing as many people as possible.

The Brereton Memorial Fund application deadline is coming up soon – 31st Jan 2016.

MARTIN GOETZE – CELEBRATION OF HIS LIFE AND WORKS

On 20 February 2016, at 3.00 pm

St Botolph Aldgate

A celebration, in music and words, of the life and works of Martin Goetze

THE LYME REGIS ORGAN SCHOOL – WINTER WORKSHOP 2016 – 17-19 FEBRUARY

The Lyme Regis Organ School is running its Winter Workshop on 17th, 18th & 19th February 2016.  This year’s course will concentrate on Playing with Confidence.  The key will be a positive, informal, enjoyable yet challenging atmosphere, working with some of the UK’s finest organists in a range of talks and discussions, demonstrations and group study sessions.  Included is a trip to Honiton, Ottery St Mary and Exeter Cathedral and St Michael’s Mount Dinham (Exeter). 

Course Tutors are Philip Scriven, Peter Parshall, Richard Godfrey, David Bruce-Payne, Ian Curror, Alex Davies and David Davies.

PARR HALL ORGAN RECITAL WITH JONATHAN KINGSTON – 26 OCTOBER 2015

Parr Hall, Warrington’s historical Cavaille-Coll organ will be brought to life during the Autumn/Winter season when Jonathan Kingston performs at the Parr Hall Organ Recital on Monday, 26 October 2015 at 7.30 pm.

Jonathan Kingston

Jonathan studied the organ with Professor Ian Tracey and Ian Wells of Liverpool’s Anglian Cathedral, home to one of the largest pipe organs in the world.  He was appointed Organ Scholar, and subsequently Sub-Organist to Bradford Cathedral before securing positions as Assistant Director and Director of Music at two leading independent schools.  Jonathan is currently Associate Director of Music at the Ordinariate Church of Our Lady of the Assumption, Piccadilly.  He has broadcasted as soloist live on BBC TV and Radio and has given recitals in many cathedrals and churches in the UK and abroad, also appearing with several orchestras including The Halle, Royal Liverpool Philharmonic, London Symphony Orchestra and English Symphony Orchestra.

Student Organist/Accompanist – Washburn Benefice Choir, North Yorkshire

Washburn Benefice Choir, based in the Harrogate district of North Yorkshire, require a Student Organist to act as Accompanist for the following three services:

  • Friday 2nd October 2015 at 7.00 pm – Fewston, North Yorkshire
  • Sunday 4th October 2015 at 9.30 am – Farnley, North Yorkshire
  • Sunday 11th October 2015 at 10.00 am – Leathley, North Yorkshire

(Rehearsals/choir practice take place on Mondays at 7.00 pm at Leathley)

The choir will be singing three pieces:

“Though Visiteth the Earth”

“Sing to the Lord of Harvest”
