THE CINEMA ORGAN SOCIETY – 13 NOVEMBER AT SALTAIRE

Robert Wolfe

robert-wolfe

Robert Wolfe is recognised as one of the world’s leading interpreters of the theatre organ. Acclaimed for his sheer artistry, renowned for his musicality, he is without question one of the top British organists.  At the early age of sixteen, he became the youngest musician at that time to join the team of organists at the world-famous Tower Ballroom, Blackpool. After three years, in 1981, he was invited to inaugurate the Wurlitzer show at the Thursford Collection, near Fakenham in Norfolk.

Robert’s music is often heard on BBC Radio 2, and he has been featured on TV. Highlights of these broadcasts include playing live for The National Lottery, with an audience of around 20 million people hearing the magnificent sounds of the Wurlitzer organ at Thursford. During the winter months he performs concerts not only around the UK, but also the USA and Canada.

Don’t miss our final concert of 2016 on Sunday 11th December, with Scotland’s youthful maestro David Gray – a musical feast not to be missed.

The Wurlitzer will also be playing informally at the ‘Saltaire Switch On’ on the new date of Sunday 27th November, from approx. 3.30-6.30pm.

Young (and Potential) Organists’ Opportunities – Oxford – 9 November 2016

Organ For All Event
Wednesday 9 November 2016
An opportunity for young musicians to enhance and broaden their opportunities – see event details attached:

There is a considerable programme of Organ Scholarships (as well as Choral Scholarships and a variety of music scholarships and bursaries) at the different colleges which make up the University of Oxford. Jesus College, Oxford is working with the Royal College of Organists, music teachers and church musicians to help communicate that it is more than possible for anyone to take up the organ (they really don’t need to be at schools boasting their own organ or their own organ teacher!), and to convey the many opportunities that learning the organ can bring.
Jesus College wants to enthuse young musicians and broaden their aspirations, to learn about a great instrument, to find one nearby, to find a teacher nearby, and to access a great musical tradition. They are welcoming students of all ages 11+ to come along, and will be catering for both youngsters and sixth-formers; all teachers are also very welcome to attend, to find out more.

Admission is free of charge (with sponsorship offered especially from Jesus College, New College, and Exeter College; we are inviting donations from anyone who wishes to attend or who wishes to sponsor a further place or two for prospective organists from low-income backgrounds).

STAR ORGANS OF BRITAIN CALENDAR 2016

starorganscalendar2016flyer

To mark the eleventh year of publication, 2016’s calendar is a bumper edition featuring some outstanding instruments both old and new. Through the good offices of Nick Plumley, we feature his own collection, the organs of Winchester College (nave and west end), a beautiful new instrument by Vincent Woodstock and Nick’s delightful case designs for the Booth/Clough organ at Lyminster. Elsewhere, Richard Bower’s stunning new creation for Soham Church and Peter Bumstead’s superb reworking of the 1846 Bishop instrument now in Haslingfield Church, Cambs. We also have a beautifully decorated little house organ built by a gifted amateur, George Buck, son of the renowned Dr Zechariah Buck of Norwich and recently restored by Edmund Holmes.

  •  Postcards are still available in limited quantities so order now to avoid disappointment.
  •  Orders can be placed by credit/debit card or cheque, and delivery of the calendar is scheduled for November.

All good wishes and thank you once again for your interest and patronage.
