COFFEE, CAKE & KEYS – ST JOHN’S CHURCH, LEEDS

You are invited to St John’s Church in Leeds on Thursday 31st March at 11.00 am for the first session of Coffee, Cake & Keys.

Coffee, Cake & Keys is a chance to listen to organ and piano music with refreshments and chat about organs, pianos, church music, choral and more. What’s more, the tea, coffee and cake will be provided for free!

St John’s Church is the oldest parish church in the city of Leeds and one of 350 churches in the care of The Churches Conservation Trust, the national charity protecting historic churches no longer needed to regular worship. The organ at St John’s was built by Forster & Andrews of Hull in 1864 – more information here. The architecture and historic furnishings are magnificent.

Further information is available at http://theleedsorganist.co.uk/coffee-cake-and-keys/

If you’re unable to make it but know anyone who might be interested in coming along, please forward this invitation as we’d like to meet as many people as possible who share our interest in music.

St Sepulchre Organ Scholarship‏

Organ Scholarship at St Sepulchre-without Newgate, Holborn

running from September 2016 to July 2017

The commitment: Principal, and only, accompanist for the professional choir for the Tuesday evening service of choral evensong at 6:30 pm, with a rehearsal before at 5:30 pm. Occasional special services on other days.

Suitability: The scholarship is ideal for someone who is looking to expand their accompaniment repertoire and gain experience in service playing. With the Musician’s chapel (where Henry Wood is buried) and the chapel for the Royal Fusiliers, the church hosts a number of prestigious services.   The church currently has a 2-manual Makin electronic organ while the special Harrison instrument is awaiting restoration.

The organ scholar is able to practise at pre-arranged times. All of the staff are incredibly friendly and supportive. There are plenty of opportunities to conduct if the scholar so wishes. The director of music is also willing to give lessons in either choral conducting or singing as part of the scholarship.

Desirable: Approximately grade 8-diploma standard on the organ. Previous accompaniment experience, ideally for the service of choral evensong, and a repertoire of voluntaries for after the service.

Remuneration: £2000 (plus extra for special services)

All applications welcome!

If you are interested or have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact either:
Ashley Wagner (current organ scholar): wagnomics@gmail.com or Peter Asprey (director of music): peter@stsepulchres.org
