DIOCESE OF LEEDS MUSIC DAY – 25 JUNE 2016

Calling all Parish Musicians, Organists, Choirs, Cantors and Clergy!

Diocese of Leeds Music Day

in association with the Royal College of Organists and sponsored by Viscount Organs

Saturday 25 June 2016, 10.00 am to 3.00 pm

Wheeler Hall, Leeds Cathedral

John Duggan – Internationally Renowned Composer

Thomas Leech and Benjamin Saunders – Diocese of Leeds Singing Programme

David Pipe – Diocese of Leeds Organists Training Programme

Philip Meaden – Royal College of Organists

10.00 am – Registration and Coffee

10.15 am – Singing Workshops

A brand new English Congregational Mass setting by John Duggan and a Gregorian Chant Mass for Sundays in Ordinary Time.

Participants are invited to form a choir to sing Duggan’s Mass in the Cathedral at 12 noon (optional).

12.45 – 1.30 pm – Lunch (not provided)

1.30 3.00 pm – Learn the organ

The Diocese of Leeds Organists Training Programme. This new organists training scheme is a partnership between the Diocese of Leeds and the Royal College of Organists and is aimed at new learners and improving players. The scheme will be introduced by RCO Chief Executive Philip Meaden and a practical workshop will follow with David Pipe, who has recently joined the Diocese of Leeds Music Team from York Minster.

Admission is free to all but places are limited and need to be booked in advance.

A complimentary copy of John Duggan’s new congregational mass will be given to all participants and extra copies will be available for purchase on the day at a discounted rate.

RCO Academy Courses

RCO Academy Easter Course, Wednesday 8 – Friday 10 April, Cambridge (bursary application deadline 2 February)

Strands for those preparing for or considering CertRCO, ARCO or FRCO and a strand for diploma standard players seeking some new stimulus.

Directed by Simon Williams and resident at Sidney Sussex College, but also open to non-residents. Using many of Cambridge’s fine organs.

Guest teachers and recitalists: Sarah Baldock, Johannes Geffert, Dr David Ponsford, plus RCO Academy teachers.

Repertoire areas for diploma standard players: French Classical; German Romantic; post 1950.

RCO Academy Summer Course, Monday 3 – Saturday 8 August, City of London (bursary application deadline 2 February)

For all standards, ages and aspirations with personalised timetables of study covering technique, keyboard skills, repertoire, church music, and much more.

Directed by Anne Marsden Thomas.

Based at St Giles Cripplegate Church and using many organs across the City of London.

The Organ Scholar Experience, Tuesday 4 – Sunday 9 August, Oxford (bursary application deadline 1 May)

For ambitious teenage organists aiming for organ scholarships at university, or in cathedrals and churches.

Directed by James Parsons and resident at St Hilda’s College.

Tuition in repertoire, keyboard skills, accompanying and conducting choirs.

Daily services of compline or choral evensong sung, accompanied and conducted by course members.
